George Mason University’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution will launch the Center for Peace Tech and Entrepreneurship in September 2024. The center will be established through the gift and support of Joe Schniebs, founder and CTO of Ridgeline International, a leader in digital identity management.

Senior of the Year Celine Apenteng has made an impact during her time at George Mason, and she isn’t done. After graduating this spring, the Silver Spring, Maryland, native will continue to pursue her master’s through the university’s accelerated master’s program.

Keil Eggers, who is graduating from Mason with his PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, has been a champion of complexity-informed conflict transformation, futures, and SenseMaker: a technology that applies a quantitative framework to narrative data submitted and interpreted by the subjects themselves. 

The opening ceremony, a momentous occasion, was moderated by Dean Alpaslan Özerdem of the Carter School. This ceremony, attended by over 600 delegates and featuring esteemed dignitaries, including President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, was held under the theme of “Dialogue for Peace and Global Security: Cooperation and Interconnectivity.” The forum provided an exceptional platform to showcase the Carter School’s expertise in conflict resolution and peacebuilding, a testament to the school's significant contributions.

Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at George Mason University and students from Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution explored their lived experiences and had the opportunity to talk about their feelings, opinions, and thoughts regarding the current events surrounding Israel and Palestine.

The Carter School Dean Alpaslan Özerdem was named to the Alliance for Peacebuilding’s Board of Directors, further cementing the Carter School’s commitment to long-term partnering for peace with impactful organizations.  The Carter School’s history with the Alliance for Peacebuilding goes back to its beginning, when Henry Hart Rice Professor Susan Allen was a founding member of the Alliance for Peacebuilding and previously served as Chair of the Board.

Conflict analysis and resolution major Seung Gyo Kim found Mason Korea to be the perfect place to get a quality education while continuing to develop his English skills.

Michael always saw his main role to be a teacher, a clarifier, a synthesizer and an interpreter, and he did this job with much success as a long term faculty member in the International Relations department at the London School of Economics, a place for which he had a deep affection.

The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School at George Mason University, the top-ranked national public institution for peace and conflict resolution, has partnered with Rotary International, one of the largest global membership service organizations, to provide education and develop modalities to assist Rotary clubs in promoting local, regional, and global peace.

Two Mason faculty members received year-long grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), part of 260 grants worth $33.8 million from the NEH this year for humanities projects across the country.

Carter School Dean Alpaslan Özerdem recently returned from a peacebuilding initiative in South Sudan, where he was a guest of the Minister of Peacebuilding Stephen Par Kuol and NewGen Peacebuilders’ Executive Director Patricia Shafer.
